Straddling the River Avon, Bristol has a prosperous maritime history and it's home to the SS Great Britain, the world's first great ocean liner, built in 1843. Its former city-centre port is now a cultural hub, the Harbourside, where the M Shed museum explores local social and industrial heritage.
The harbour's 19th-century warehouses now contain restaurants, shops and cultural institutions such as contemporary art galleries. There are also nearly 500 stores between Britsol's two separate covered shopping centres and plenty of restaurants and cafe to choose from.
Bristol is also the birth place of world-famous artist, Banksy. Why not take a self-guided walking tour to spot some of his work around the city, with plenty of stops to sample some of the bars, cafés and restaurants the city has to offer.
