Step into the ‘real Downton Abbey’, a must-see experience for fans of the acclaimed drama. The 5,000-acre estate will welcome you to Highclere Castle, one of England’s finest occupied Victorian castles and the popular filming location. Walk in the footsteps of the Crawley family, explore the fascinating Egyptian exhibition, and visit the vast and beautiful grounds. A tour to the rural haven of the Cotswolds gives you to time to explore and enjoy unspoilt market towns and villages, and Bath is one of England’s most beautiful places to visit.
Day 1 Departure: 0830-0930 hrs. Travel to the Cotswolds, a rural landscape with quintessential English charm found nowhere else in the world. Free time at Stow-on-the-Wold. Here you will find a huddle of honey-coloured buildings, with fine antique shops and tea rooms. Free time for lunch at Cirencester, (cost not included) considered the Capital of the Cotswolds with a smart range of shops. Hotel check-in. Dinner is included for the next 3 nights.
Day 2 Spend a day at leisure in Bath, a unique city. It enjoys some of the finest architectural sights in Europe such as the splendid Abbey, The Royal Crescent, the Circus, Pulteney Bridge and the world famous Roman Baths. This compact city also offers irresistible shopping and a diverse collection of museums and attractions.
Day 3 Visit Highclere Castle at 1100 hrs, home to the Carnarvon family since 1679. Built on an ancient site, the original house was recorded in the Doomsday Book. It has a fascinating connection with ancient Egypt, with a themed exhibition showcased in the cellar which commemorates the 5thEarl’s discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. You can experience the same magnificent rooms as Downton Abbey’s favourite on-screen characters, with its grand architecture, art and opulent furnishings.
Day 4 Departure. Travel homewards, making a stop en-route at Stratford-upon-Avon. The idyllic riverside town is packed with preserved old buildings, a snapshot of medieval England. It boasts a quality range of independent shops and restaurants. Arrive home: teatime.
