Springtime Fjords in Five Nights - Fred Olsen Cruise aboard Balmoral
A short, yet highly rewarding taste of the fjordland, this five-night foray to Fred. Olsen’s beautiful homeland packs-in scenic cruising of gorgeous waterways and visits to two charming destinations. Experience the unique scenery of the idyllic Lysefjord, after an overnight sail from Newcastle;
then visit Eidfjord, gateway to the wonders of Hardangerfjord, the ‘Queen of the Fjords’. There’s a memorable journey along Hardangerfjord, and the lush-green Ulvikafjord, too; before Bergen presents its abundant attractions, such as the Troldhaugen Museum and Mount Fløyen.
Enjoying a taste of the fjordland in a shorter time is possible thanks to your departure port’s convenient proximity to Norway. Exploration begins, after an overnight sail from Newcastle, with a memorable scenic cruise of the idyllic Lysefjord. Your gentle glide along the glassy waters, which are only accessible to smaller ships, is sure to leave you captivated, presenting views of mighty mountains and cliffs and mysterious rock formations. A visit to pretty Eidfjord, deep within Hardangerfjord, is your first chance to step ashore. Perhaps take a tour to the Vøringsfossen, one of Norway’s most famous waterfalls; or head to Lekve Juice and Cider Farm to sample locally produced delights. Opt for a kayaking adventure and you’ll admire Hardangerfjord’s scenic splendour from a unique perspective.
Back on board Balmoral, a return journey along Hardangerfjord offers another opportunity to witness the outstanding natural beauty of the ‘Queen of the Fjords’, resplendent in seasonal spring bloom. This evening of scenic cruising will also include a diversion into Ulvikafjord, where views of lush-green valleys and towering mountains await. Finally, there’s a full-day to enjoy in Norway’s vibrant second city, Bergen. Take time to discover the abundant attractions here; among the best of them are the world-famous, UNESCO-listed Bryggen Wharf, the traditional fish market and the Troldhaugen Museum. The Troldhaugen is the former home of Edvard Grieg and now dedicated to celebrating the life and works of the legendary Norwegian composer. Don’t miss the fantastic views available from atop Mount Fløyen, which is reached via the funicular railway, too.
